Your Father's Oldsmobile

Back in the 1990s Oldsmobile ran an ad campaign "Not your father's Oldsmobile" as they tried hard to reinvent their image.  The problem is, Oldsmobile completely alienated their core demographic (loyal buyers who'd been buying Oldsmobiles since before this one was even in showrooms).  Considering this was the very Oldsmobile that many of those fathers had... well, I'm sure someone in marketing thought it was a good idea to disassociate the brand with cars like this in favor of promoting cars like the Achieva.  Oldsmobile, the oldest surviving American marque was relegated to the scrapheap not long after (and GM went bankrupt a few years after that).
