Back when I was a professional Toyota mechanic, I worked on several of these. The most common ailment was the defective head gasket the V-6 engine had in the late 1990's to early 2000's. Toyota eventually figured out how to fix the problem and recalled hundreds of thousands of trucks and 4-Runners equipped with that 3 liter V-6 engine.

Sooooo many head gasket jobs.  These as well as the U-Haul moving vans based on this same chassis were a particular pain to work on. They wouldn't fit on the lift so getting under them to disconnect the exhaust from the manifold required jacking up the nose and crawling underneath the beast on a creeper. The flatbed work trucks were generally just a matter of finding the correct balance point.
